  • How can I register online for Internet Banking?

    Click on this link (http://personal.aib.ie./ways-to-bank/online-registration) and follow the instructions on-screen.

  • Who can register online for Internet Banking?

    AIB customers who hold a Personal Bank Account in their sole name with an active AIB Debit Card and are 16 years or over can register online.

  • If I do not meet the above criteria how can I register for Internet Banking?

    You can continue to register over the phone by calling 0818 724 020 (+353 1 771 2424 from abroad).

  • What do I need to complete online registration?

    You will need to have your AIB Debit Card and your mobile phone on your person, as we will send you an activation code by SMS to this phone.  You will also need to provide the details of the account (Bank Sort Code and Account Number or IBAN) that is linked to the Debit Card.

  • Why are you asking me for my seven digit card number instead of the usual 16 digit card number?

    This is for security reasons to ensure that the person registering is the one who is in possession of the card.

  • How long does it take to register online?

    The online registration process can take between 5 and 30 minutes.  There are only three screens in the registration process, but you will be required to confirm that you have read the Terms and Conditions so you should allow sufficient time to read these documents.

  • Is there a maximum time limit to complete the registration?

    The activation code you receive by text will expire after 30 minutes so you will need to enter this and submit on screen two within 30 minutes of having received the code.

  • What happens if I do not complete the online registration process within 30 minutes or if I exit the screens without completing the process?

    If you have started but not completed the online registration process you will need to start the process again.

  • Can I complete the registration process with a Joint Account?

    You cannot currently complete the online registration process with a joint account.  If you would like to register a joint account please call us on 0818 724 020 (+353 1 771 2424 from abroad).

  • Once I’ve registered my Debit Card account can I register other accounts?

    Once you have successfully registered you can add your other sole accounts by logging in to Internet Banking and selecting the ‘Manage My Accounts’ option from the left menu.  If you would like to register a joint account please call 0818 724 020 (+353 1 771 2424 from abroad).

  • Once I’ve registered online for Internet Banking can I complete transactions online?

    Once you have successfully registered for Internet Banking you can complete certain transactions online.  However, some Internet Banking transactions require an AIB Card Reader, see our Card Reader FAQs (link to http://personal.aib.ie/help-and-guidance/aib-card-reader-and-code-card-faqs) for full details, including how to order a Card Reader.

  • I have tried to complete the Online Registration form but I am getting an error message telling me the information does not match.

    The information you enter must match the information we hold on our records.  If any one of the required fields do not match our records you will not be able to proceed and you will receive an error message.  We have deliberately not indicated which fields have been incorrectly entered for security reasons.  You can still register by calling us on 0818 724 020 (+353 1 771 2424 from abroad).  Also, if you are trying to register a joint account or you are less than 16 years of age, you will also receive an error message.

  • Why do I have to enter the Security Check text at the bottom of the page?

    This is standard practice for form submissions, called a ‘Captcha’, which is a security feature designed to prevent automated programmes attempting to complete forms.

  • I have recently changed my mobile phone number but have not previously notified AIB of this new number, can I still register online?

    The mobile phone number you enter must match the one that we hold on our records as this is where the activation code text will be sent to complete the online registration process.

  • Why do you need my email address?

    We require your email address so that we can send you important documentation about your registration; Phone & Internet Banking Terms & Conditions, your Distance Marketing Contract and the Data Protection Notice on Use of Information.  You need to confirm that you have received, read and accepted these Terms & Conditions before your registration can be completed and you can begin to use the service.  We will also send you a confirmation email at the end of the online registration process.

  • Will you use this email address to communicate with me in the future?

    The e-mail address you provide during the online registration process is for the sole purpose of sending you important documentation for this process.  We will not update our records with the email address you provide and we will not use it for any future communications unless you have previously provided this email address for such purposes.

  • How do I log in when I have completed the online registration process?

    On the final confirmation screen a link will be provided which you can click to log in immediately.  Alternatively, you can login by selecting the Personal Login button on the top right of aib.ie.  You will need your eight digit registration number, the five digit personal access code (PAC) you selected and to enter one additional security question.

  • Will you send me my Registration Number?

    For security reasons we will not send your registration number by email.  We will display this on the final screen of the online registration process and we would advise you to take a note of this number.

  • What do I do if I have forgotten my registration number or PAC?

    If you have forgotten your Registration number or Personal Access Code please call 0818 724 020 (+353 1 771 2424 from abroad).

  • I am interesting in using the AIB Tablet Banking and Mobile Banking Apps, do I need to register separately for them?

    Once you have successfully registered for Phone & Internet Banking you are also registered for Tablet Banking and Mobile Banking.  You just need to download the apps in order to begin using these services.  More information on these services is available on the relevant product page, AIB Tablet Banking (link to https://personal.aib.ie/ways-to-bank/tablet-banking) and AIB Mobile Banking (link to https://personal.aib.ie/ways-to-bank/mobile-banking).

  • If I have sole and joint accounts on my profile, will it let me complete the process online?

    If you have an active Debit Card attached to one of your sole accounts you can register using this account.  Once you have successfully registered you can add your other sole accounts by logging in to Internet Banking and selecting ‘Manage My Accounts’.  If you would like to register for the service on a joint account only or add your joint account to your Internet Banking, please call 0818 724 020 (+353 1 771 2424 from abroad).

  • What If I have a credit card on my profile, will this automatically be added to my Internet Banking and if so, will this then be included for third security question?

    Your credit card will not be automatically added to your profile but you can add this by logging in to Internet Banking and selecting ‘Manage My Accounts’.
