Help and Guidance

Top tips for travelling and safety

    • Don't forget to bring some cash for immediate expenses e.g. taxis, public transport, tips, food. Make sure to order your foreign currency notes at least 10 days in advance from your local AIB branch.

    • Bring a range of payment methods (credit card, debit card and cash) and don't keep them all in one place! Order and pack your AIB Card Reader in case you need to make new international transfers or set up standing orders while you're away.

    • Check the expiry dates on your cards and your passport!

    • Always shield your PIN when you are using an ATM or Point of Sale terminal.

    • When paying for goods and services keep your card in view.

    • Make sure that you have some travel insurance in place. If your trip is interrupted or your luggage is lost, you'll be glad you bought it.

    • Make a copy of your Travel Itinerary; leave a copy with a family member or someone who you will be in constant contact with.

    • Check if you need a visa for the country you are visiting.

    • Make sure you have access to sufficient money to cover expenses and access to emergency funds.

    • If you are a registered AIB Phone & Internet Banking customer, you should download the AIB Mobile Banking app to your smartphone before you go - as well as allowing you to transfer funds and check your balance, it has a Foreign Exchange Calculator and any AIB phone numbers you may need while you're away. Data charges may apply. Click here for more information.
