The Triumphant Return of Eddie Connolly

Loughmore-Castleiney successfully progressed to the Tipperary SHC final on Sunday 26th October following a convincing victory against Mullinahone. However, the fans of both teams were united in welcoming back Eddie Connolly to the field for the winners.

Eddie had been diagnosed with a brain tumour following the county semi-final win last year against Borrisoleigh and the former Tipperary All-Ireland intermediate winning captain was required to undergo surgery.

Connolly was well enough to return to the bench for Loughmore-Castleiney in the Tipperary Senior Hurling Club semi-final and he received a standing ovation from everyone in attendance at Semple Stadium when he came on as an injury-time substitute. Eddie had only gotten the good news a week previous and the entire Tipperary hurling community had shown him great support throughout his illness.

Despite being unlucky not to knock over a point on literally his very first day back hurling and Loughmore-Castleiney ultimately being beaten by Sarsfield in the final, this was a truly amazing story and really captured the hearts of GAA fans everywhere.
