Keeping an eye on your transactions is a smart move. If your funds dip lower than you realise, you could be surprised by a declined transaction. And if your account goes into overdraft, it can result in fees and charges. The best way to avoid this is by keeping up to date with your balance and transactions. It’s quick and easy, so get into the habit with these transaction-tracking tips.

How do I track you? Let me count the ways

At AIB, we like to make things as easy as possible. That’s why we offer 5 different ways to check your balance and see your transaction history. Your phone & wallet go hand in hand, and when you have AIB Mobile Banking on your phone, you can see what your wallet is doing. The App allows you to review up to 2 years of transactions, manage your Standing Orders and Direct Debits and make payments.

You can also download our AIB Tablet App or log in online for 24/7 access to your information. No internet? Then give us a call, stop by any of our ATMs, or use our in-branch Card Kiosks. Whether you’re chilling out or on the go - you can access your account information anytime, anywhere.

When to expect what you’re expecting

Your transaction history provides a detailed list of how much you spent and where and when you spent it, but not every transaction will show up immediately. Take Contactless payments - the handy way to make purchases under €30 quickly and securely. Contactless payments won’t show up on your online or app banking until they’ve been debited from your account and the same goes for transactions from non-AIB ATMs. So don’t worry if you don’t see a transaction right away.

We’ve got your back

Ever check your transactions for purchases you didn’t make? It’s a good idea to keep an eye on these things, but rest assured AIB is looking out for you too. We’ve recently launched our new anti-fraud text alert service to keep our customers safer. If we notice any suspicious transactions (in other parts of the world or outside of your usual spending patterns) we’ll send you a quick text to let you know and confirm you made the purchases. It means we can block any suspicious card activity as quickly as possible, which is great for your peace of mind.

Tracking leads to better budgeting

Sometimes, you don’t realise that reviewing your transactions can actually help you save. Where are you shopping most? What are you buying, and how much are you spending? With our ‘My Money Management’ tool, you can see just that. Get a quick overview in the “My Spending” section of AIB Mobile Banking, or log into AIB Internet Banking and our Tablet App to see more detailed graphs of your transactions, make a budget and even set savings goals.

If you’re starting to budget and want to make cutbacks, this is a great place to start. And who knows? Perhaps seeing you’ve spent €100 on taxis this month might finally inspire you to buy that car you’ve been thinking about - or at least a bike.

There are a number of ways to track your transactions. Log into AIB Internet Banking, call us on (0818) 724 724, or download our Apps. Our AIB Mobile Banking App and AIB Tablet App are available for both iOS and Android from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
