Six Magical Ideas to Transform Your Child’s Bedroom

Do you remember your bedroom as a child? Whether you were obsessed with princesses or loved Star Wars, we bet you dreamt of having the perfect room. 1. Give the Room a Theme

Almost every child has something that he or she loves. Whether it’s Lego or football, kittens or fairies, giving a room a theme will make it easier to decorate for you and more fun from a child’s point of view. You don’t have to go all out, a theme can be evident in the design of the bed linen or curtains or even in pictures hung on the wall. With a little bit of imagination, you can add some serious magic to your child’s room – without breaking the bank.

2. Splash the Paint

You’d be surprised what a lick of paint can do to brighten up a room. Don’t be afraid to use bright and bold colours - or paint one wall a different shade to the rest. A splash of paint can also work well on furniture. Give new life to a bedside table or a bookshelf by painting it in your son or daughter’s favourite colours. You can even give them a brush and get them to add their own artistic touch.

Add some magic to the walls by framing your child’s pictures and hanging them. This will not only add colour, but give the room a personal touch and encourage your child’s creativity. Alternatively, have some fun family photos enlarged and printed and then hang them on the wall. Stencils are another inexpensive option that can transform a space and that your child can help you with.

4. Get Creative

You don’t have to spend a fortune when redecorating your child’s room. Simple creative elements like a banner spelling out their name can work really well. Just use patches of fabric sewn on to curtains or alphabet letters made from cardboard, covered in crepe paper and strung from the ceiling. They’ll be delighted to literally put their name on their own room.

5. Use Soft Lighting

The right lighting can transform a bedroom – and softer light sources work really well for a child’s room. Invest in cheap but soft table lamps and make use of fairy lights – trailing them across walls, pictures and furniture. This fun little touch will add instant sparkle to even the most ordinary space.

6. Invest in the Right Bed Linen

Bed linen shouldn’t be underestimated when doing up any bedroom – and you can have lots of fun picking out colourful covers for your child’s bedroom. Look out for sales and opt for bright statement pieces or themed duvet covers and sheets. Even pillows make a difference – and can be bought quite cheaply. For a little girl, a simple canopy can transform her bed into one fit for a proper princess.
