We can open a bank account easily for you.

We understand that if you are seeking asylum or have recently been granted refugee status, you might not have access to standard documents. We have listed the standard documents we need, and the alternatives we will accept if you don’t have them here.

You can open an account in two ways:

  1. Using your smartphone; or
  2. In one of our branches

With your passport and some English, you can open a bank account using your smartphone. Download the AIB Mobile Banking App from the Apple Store or Google Play Store and select the option to ‘Become an AIB customer’.

We understand that this might not work for everyone. You can also open a bank account with us in your local branch. Please arrange an appointment with your local Branch where we will be happy to help you through the process, find the right kind of current account for you, and answer any questions you may have.

For more information, contact our Additional Support Helpline on 0818 227 056. Lines are open Monday to Friday 9:00 to 17:00, or ask for a branch appointment here.
