Open a Current Account via the AIB App
You can now open a personal current account with us on your smartphone if you:
Live in the Republic of Ireland
Have an EEA Passport
Are aged between 16 and 65 years of age
Do not hold any accounts with AIB
Four simple steps to open your new account:
What to do if I'm not meeting the above criteria
If you are already a customer, we have all the details we need and we can open an account for you more easily at the branch or via the "Apply & Open" tab on your AIB Internet Banking.
If you are over 66 we can offer you a special Advantage Account which you can open at your branch.
If you don't meet the criteria above, you can still open a current account at your local branch.
How to open an account with your phone
If you'd prefer not to read this just have a look at our demo video instead!
Here are the steps to take:
Download the AIB Mobile Banking App from the App Store or Play Store. Select the option to "Become an AIB customer".
Enter your e-mail address. We'll send a unique code to your inbox that is required to continue.
We'll ask you to enter your personal details and present you with the account suitable for you, then...
We will connect with you on video call, so you'll need a phone with a front facing camera and stable internet connection.
Our agent will guide you, for example getting you to hold up your passport so we can check your identity.
Once we check your identity you can carry on with opening your account, pick a branch and register for our internet banking service.
Your account will then be opened, but before you can begin to use your account you will need to prove your address.
To prove your address, we will send you a letter to the provided postal address that you've given us. This letter will contain a unique identifier code which you will then need to enter into the app.
Then you're good to go and you can lodge money to your new current account and transact online. We will send a debit card in the post and a PIN separately.
