We’ve built a new app to support you in the life you’re after. It includes new features to help you manage your money as well as making quick and easy payments.
Opening a current account
If you want to open a current account, the AIB mobile app is designed to do just that.
AIB support your daily needs so that you have the freedom and flexibility to bank quickly and securely from anywhere within the app.
The AIB mobile app makes everyday banking simple, seamless and intuitive
Use it to:
Make payments using either Zippay or SEPA Instant.
- Use Zippay for fast and secure payments to your family and friends. Send up to €1,000 to family and friends, they can send you money and you can split payments up to €500 each with them, like the restaurant bill.
- Use SEPA Instant to make fast, secure and efficient payments throughout the SEPA zones. With Selfie Check, you can send up to €10,000 to another account instantly. Without Selfie Check, you can send up to €1,000 to another account instantly.
- Using either of these ways of paying there is a daily limit on how much you can pay. Find out more about transaction limits.
Create, view, or cancel standing orders.
View or cancel direct debits.
View, download, print or request a statement of fees or account statement.
Freeze or replace your cards.
Set up and use Apple Pay and Google Pay in minutes.
Create budgets to support you in managing your money and giving you more insight into your spending habits.
Open a new current or savings account. No need to visit us in branch.
Keeping your banking safe & secure
Log in to the AIB mobile app using passkeys. This is our simple and secure way of logging in to the app.
If you want to find out more information about a transaction, tap on it to see the transaction type, status, time and date.
Lost your card or need a replacement? Simply log in to your app to freeze or cancel your card. If you happen to find your card, you can unfreeze it at any time. If you need a replacement card, you can order a new one.
Open a current account with us in our AIB mobile app
It’s simple and takes minutes to open a current account with us in the app.
If you are looking to open a current account on your own, you need to:
Be aged 16 and over.
Live in the Republic of Ireland.
Have a valid Passport.
To open a current account with us:
- Download the AIB mobile app from your App Store (iOS) or Google Play store (Android).
- Tap ‘Join AIB’ and follow the on-screen steps. You will need your Passport on hand to scan in the app.
Here’s a few things to know once your current account is ready to use
Use your 8-digit registration number and 5-digit Personal Access Code (PAC) to log in to the AIB mobile app or if you want to make your login experience even easier and faster, set up a passkey.
You can add money to your account but to start making payments, you need to confirm your address first. We’ll send you a code in the post. Once it arrives, log in to the app and ‘Confirm your address’, then follow the on-screen steps.
Make sure to give your IBAN and BIC to your employer or anyone paying you.. To find your IBAN and BIC, tap your account on the home screen of the app, and tap ‘Details’.
You can also set up standing orders and save payees quickly and easily in the app, making future payments faster.
If you’re switching to us from another bank, make sure you download all your previous statements and take note of any regular payments on your account. This includes direct debits and standing orders such as mortgage payments, local property tax, insurance premiums, and utility bills. If you need to change any regular direct debits, it is best to do this early to avoid missed payments. Before closing your old account, make sure any remaining balance on your old account is cleared.

If you are an existing customer, you can open a current account in the ‘Apply & Open’ section of Internet Banking.
