Changes to using your card online

When you’re shopping online, we may need to confirm that it’s really you using your card. This is an extra layer of security called Strong Customer Authentication (SCA for short) making online shopping even more secure.

We have started to introduce new ways to confirm it’s you, such as using an app or using a password for online purchases along with a one-time passcode.

When you’re shopping online after you’ve entered in your card details to pay, a Visa screen may appear and ask you to confirm your transaction. The on screen instructions will tell you what to do next.

With just a few taps, the AIB Mobile App is the easiest way to confirm it’s really you making a purchase.

How shopping online works using AIB Mobile Banking

  1. When you are shopping online and you are asked to confirm it’s you, you will see a message on screen asking you to check your phone
  2. On your phone, tap on the message. Then follow the on-screen instructions to confirm the purchase
  3. Finally, return to the online store and press “complete”  to finish shopping

How to confirm your purchases

For business customers, each person who has a card on the account will need to download a new app.

We will tell you more about the app when it is available.

For now, if we need to confirm it’s you, we’ll continue to send you a one-time passcode by text message and you must enter this code to complete your online purchase.
