Changes to using your card online
When you’re shopping online, we may need to confirm that it’s really you using your card. This is an extra layer of security called Strong Customer Authentication (SCA for short) making online shopping even more secure.
We have introduced new ways to confirm it’s you, such as using an app or using a password for online purchases along with a one-time passcode.
When you’re shopping online after you’ve entered in your card details to pay, a Visa screen may appear and ask you to confirm your transaction. The on screen instructions will tell you what to do next.
Not Registered for Phone & Internet Banking?
For the smoothest journey, you can register for Phone and Internet Banking by phoning 0818 724 020 (+353 1 771 2424, select option 5). If you choose to do this, you can download the AIB Mobile App. Make sure you have push notifications turned on and that we have your correct mobile number.

Shopping online using our app
You need to have the most up to date version of AIB’s Mobile Banking app.
- When you shop online we will send you a notification to confirm it’s you.
- Tap on the notification and follow the steps.
- You can also confirm your purchase through the app itself. Just log into the app and follow the steps.
- When you go back to the shopping site, you may need to press ‘I have approved in my app’ before your purchase is confirmed.
