Changes to using your card online

When you’re shopping online, we may need to confirm that it’s you before the transaction can be authorised or your card details can be stored online for future use. This is an extra layer of security called Strong Customer Authentication (SCA for short) making online shopping even more secure.

The easiest way to do this is using the AIB Mobile App. Alternatively, if you prefer not to use the mobile app or cannot use push notifications, you can set up a password to use with a one-time passcode sent to your phone instead.

When you’re shopping online after you’ve entered in your card details to pay, a Visa screen may appear and ask you to confirm your transaction. The on screen instructions will tell you what to do next.

With just a few taps, the AIB Mobile App is the easiest way to confirm it’s really you making a purchase.

Personal Cardholders

Shopping online using our app

You need to have the most up to date version of AIB’s Mobile Banking app.

  1. When you shop online we will send you a notification to confirm it’s you.
  2. Tap on the notification and follow the steps.
  3. You can also confirm your purchase through the app itself. Just log into the app and follow the steps.
  4. When you go back to the shopping site, you may need to press ‘I have approved in my app’ before your purchase is confirmed.

Are you having trouble shopping online?

If you do not have the AIB Mobile Banking app you can use Phone & Internet Banking and set up a password for online purchases.

Business cardholders

For business customers, all cardholders need to download and set up the new AIB Authenticator app.
