Is AIB Selling its AIB Merchant Services business?
AIB Group plc has reached agreement on the sale of its minority stake in AIB Merchant Services (AIBMS) to Fiserv, Inc. AIBMS was founded in 2007, as a Joint Venture (JV) between AIB and Fiserv and is one of Ireland’s largest payment solution providers and one of Europe’s largest e-commerce acquirers.

Why did AIB Group choose to sell its stake in AIBMS to Fiserv?
AIBMS has had a strong financial performance over the past number of years and is well-positioned for the future. Considering the evolution of the business and the strategic priorities of both AIB Group and Fiserv, AIB Group has reached an agreement to sell its minority shareholding of 49.9% to JV partner Fiserv.

How much of AIBMS does AIB Group currently own?
Prior to completion of the transaction, AIB own 49.9% of AIBMS and Fiserv own the majority 50.1%. Fiserv has now agreed to acquire AIB’s shareholding and will be sole owners following the sale.

When will this change take effect?
The transaction is expected to be completed later this year subject to all relevant regulatory approvals.

How will this impact my existing agreement with AIB Merchant Services?
There will be no day-to-day change for AIBMS customers as a result of this announcement and no customer action is required.

As a customer of AIB Bank, will this change impact on the services provided to me by AIB Merchant Services?
There is no impact on the services provided by AIBMS to AIB customers.

Will the phone numbers & email addresses I use to contact AIB MS change as a result of the sale?
No, all contact details for AIB MS will stay the same.

I have an ongoing complaint with AIB MS, will this change impact that process?
No, this change will have no impact on AIB MS complaint management, and your complaint will be dealt with as standard.

What will happen to the AIBMS brand? Will it change to Fiserv?
AIBMS will continue to operate as AIBMS, under a short-term brand agreement, allowing for an orderly exit of the AIB brand from the business.

Will AIB look to partner with another payments provider or set up its own payments system?
Merchant card acquiring services are important for many of our existing customers and AIB will continue to work with AIBMS and Fiserv by referring AIB customers who require these services to support them in their business needs.
