How do I stop a cheque?
You can choose to stop a cheque(s) on Internet Banking by following the steps below:
Log into AIB Kiosk Banking
Select ‘Relevant Account’ within the 'Account Overview' menu
Choose the option from the list 'Cheque Search/Stop Cheque'
Select the relevant account from the account list available
Enter the cheque number and then click 'Search'
The results of the search will be displayed beneath and if the cheque has not been presented you will have the option to 'Stop Cheque'
Select 'Stop Cheque' and then click 'Next' and then click 'Confirm'
You will then be returned to the confirmation screen with a message to confirm that the cheque has been stopped and an option to 'Print a Receipt'

Is there a cost associated with stopping a cheque?
There is no charge associated with stopping a cheque on any Personal Current Account. There is however a charge associated with stopping cheques on Business Current Accounts. Please note that if you 'Stop Cheque Book or Multiple Cheques' you will be charged only one fee to your account. For further information please see A Guide to Business Fees and Charges.

Can I stop multiple cheques at any one time?
Yes, it is possible to stop multiple cheques so long as they are a range of sequential cheques. To do so follow the steps below:
Log into AIB Internet Banking
Select ‘Cheques’ within the'Services & Settings' menu
Choose the option from the list 'Stop Multiple Cheques'
Select your account from the account list available
Enter the cheque serial number range 'from and to' and then click 'Search'
You will then be returned to the confirmation screen with a message to confirm that the cheques have been stopped.

How do I cancel a Cheque Stop?
In order to cancel a stop you previously placed on a cheque please complete the following steps:
Log into AIB Internet Banking
Select ‘Cheques’ within the 'Services & Settings 'menu
Choose the option from the list 'Remove Stop Cheque'
Select the relevant account from the account list available and click 'Next'
You will be presented with a listing of all current stops - both individual and multiple stops
Select the cheque(s) from the list for which you would like to remove the stop from and click 'Remove Stop' from the right side of listing
You will be requested to enter a code from your Card Reader and then click 'Confirm'.
You will then be returned to the confirmation screen with a message to confirm that the cheques have been stopped.
Please note you will not be able to remove a stop on an individual cheque which had originally been stopped as part of a Multiple Cheques Stop.

Can I view a list of all cheques which I have stopped?
You are able to view a list of all cheque stops per account. This can be done by completing the following steps:
Log into AIB Internet Banking
Select ‘Cheques’ within the 'Services & Settings' menu
Choose the option from the list 'Stop Cheques History'
Select your account from the account list available and click 'Next'
You will be presented with a listing of all current stops - both individual and multiple stops.

How quickly does a cheque stop take effect?
Any cheque(s) stopped on Internet Banking are immediate.

The account from which I want to stop the cheque on is not visible on my Internet Banking?
If the account on which you wish to place a stop is not listed please call our Customer Service Team for assistance on 0818 724 724 or from abroad on +353 1 771 2424.

Can I place a stop on a cheque which has already been presented on my account?
It is not possible to stop a paid cheque. If the cheque has been presented for payment within the last two business days, please contact our Customer Service Team on 0818 724 724 or from abroad on +353 1 771 2424.

Can I place a stop / remove a stop on cheques for my joint account online.?
It is possible to place a stop on cheques for your joint account on Internet Banking, however to remove a stop on cheques for your joint account , all parties to the account will need to visit the branch or alternatively send the request to your branch in writing.
