Features and Benefits

Optional AIB Debit Card. The bank will pay the annual Government Stamp Duty on your AIB Debit Card. Parental/ Guardian consent is required for an AIB Debit Card if you are under 16 years of age. For more information view the AIB Debit Card page.
Commission-free foreign exchange. Commission-free purchase and sale of foreign currency notes. To avail of this additional benefit, you must advise staff at the time of each transaction that you are an AIB Student Account holder. These additional financial benefits are only available on face to face transactions undertaken at the branch and are not available on any transactions undertaken at an ATM, AIB Self Service banking or through any other electronic means.

Ways to Open
The AIB Student Account is available to students between the ages of 12 and 18 years who are in part time or full time second level education. The Bank may at its discretion extend the benefits of Student Accounts to other customers.
On your Smartphone
All we need to see is proof that you:
Live in the Republic of Ireland
Have an European Economic Area (EEA) Passport
Are between the ages of 16 – 18

In your local branch
If you are under 16 or would prefer to go into a branch to open your account, you will need to complete an AIB Student Account Application Form and if you are under 16 years of age this must be signed by a Parent/ Guardian. The Parent/ Guardian of the student must call into their local AIB branch, confirming their request for an AIB Debit Card on the account if the student is under 16 years of age. The Parent/ Guardian must be aware that they have no authority to amend the card details except for cancelling the card (if the student is under 16 years). The card must be cancelled at the branch or written instruction to the branch.
The customer must be the beneficial owner of all funds lodged to the AIB Student Account.
Along with the application form, you will need to bring a few things to prove you are you.
Gather together your identification documents.
In order to comply with legislation to combat money laundering and terrorist financing, we will need to see suitable documentation to verify both your identity and your current permanent address.
What you need:

A Passport, or
A Drivers Licence, or

Proof of Current Permanent Address (documents must be no more than 6 months old):
A letter or bill addressed to you from a bank or mobile phone company (no more than six months old), or
A letter from your Parent or Guardian confirming your name, address, that you are in second level Education and living with your Parent or Guardian.
If you are under 16 your Parent or Guardian will have to come to the branch to show some of their details.
Remember, we can’t accept photocopies of documents, so please bring the originals!
