What is Emergency Home Assistance?
The service is specifically for minor emergencies that happen in the home that need a short-term fix such as a broken window, a damaged roof, or a plumbing problem.

We’ll send an approved tradesman to your home to patch up the problem before it gets worse, giving you some time to get it fixed at a later stage. Get up to 4 call-outs per year, free of charge.

Will it affect my premium?

No, this is a complimentary service.

Availing of Emergency Home Assistance does not mean you’re making a claim. Call-outs and repairs won’t impact your premium price next year.

- 1 hour of labour up to the value of €250 to temporarily repair the issue
- €100 towards overnight accommodation for you and your family if your home is unfit to live in due to an emergency
- 1 hour of labour up to the value of €500 for roof repairs
How can I make a claim?

You can contact our 24 hour claims helpline on 0818 27 26 25. We also run a 24 hour home helpline. In the event of an emergency you can contact us on 0818 61 99 33 and we’ll put you in touch with someone that can help.
If I need to make a change to the policy what should I do?

You can contact our helpline on 0818 27 26 25 Monday to Friday 8:00 to 20:00 and on Saturdays between 10:00 to 14:00 (excluding public holiday weekends).
I'm a first time buyer, when does my policy need to be put in place?

It does depend on the terms and conditions of your mortgage agreement but usually cover needs to be in place for when you are due to draw down on your mortgage. The cover would come into effect when you are the legal owner.
How do I calculate my buildings sum insured?

The sum insured should represent the cost of rebuilding your home if it is totally destroyed. This is not necessarily the market value of the building. Our rebuild calculator may be used as a guide but is only indicative. For further information please refer to www.scsi.ie
How can I pay?

With AIB Home Insurance the premium is the same whatever way you wish to pay. We offer an interest free direct debit so there are no extra charges to spread the cost. We also accept Credit and Debit cards. And our team on 0818 27 26 25 can also accept cheque, bank draft and postal orders.
What is an excess?

The excess is the first part of an insurance claim that you would pay yourself. The amount depends on the excess selected and on the type of claim. Please refer to our policy schedule for further information.

Covering contents

What does Contents only Insurance include?
All household goods kept within the home such as furniture, clothes and electrical items as well as valuables like jewellery, paintings and other works of art.

If I'm moving house, are my contents covered in transit?

Yes, as long as you use professional contractors. China, glass and other fragile items are not covered so be careful!
How much should I insure my contents for?

You should consider how much it would cost to replace your contents. Contents could be described as the items you would take with you if you moved house. It is worth noting that some items, for example electronic equipment, may cost less to replace today that they did when they were purchased.
Should I include my kitchen with my buildings or contents?

Buildings are defined as the home covered by the schedule, the outbuildings (including greenhouses, decking, garden sheds) and also the fixtures and fittings. Therefore fitted kitchens, fitted bedroom wardrobes and bathrooms should be included with the buildings sum insured.

Will AIB insure a house I’m renting to tenants – I’m a Landlord?

Landlord Insurance Advisor Costs

We cover advisor costs to help recover possession of the property if tenants breach the law regarding payment of rent, or their lease agreement.

Loss of Rent

If the property is not fit to live in because of damage or loss caused by an insurable event, then we will pay you the amount of rent you lost up to a max of 20% of the buildings sum insured.
Are my tenants contents covered?

If you have a smart invest policy and have selected contents cover, your policy will cover the contents that you own in the building. The onus is on your tenant to insure their own contents. AIB Home Insurance can also offer contents only cover to your tenant.
If my house fell to the ground will it be rebuilt to the same standard?

Insurance is there so your house can be brought back to the same condition it was in before the event of the claim. Your home would be built to the same standard or stage of completion as it was before the incident.

Risk and Accidental Damage

What are all the risks?

All risks cover you for the loss, theft or accidental damage to certain items away from the home as well as inside. You can specify the individual items if they are over the value of €1,000. Or, you can choose an overall value for a number of unspecified items which are under €1,000 each.
Am I covered if someone trips in my home?

We offer public liability cover up to €3million. This covers in the event of bodily injury to any person in and around your home. For further information please refer to our policy book and/or your schedule.
What is accidental damage?

Accidental damage is where your house content is accidentally damaged, for example a spillage of paint on the carpet or sofa.
Can I get cover for accidental damage?

You can extend your policy to cover accidental damage to your contents, for example a spillage of paint on the carpet or sofa. It covers you in the event of something sudden and unexpected that you have done accidentally.
If I make my home safer, will my premium be reduced?
Yes. We will give you a discount for:
- Approved intruder alarms
- Good - quality deadlocks on doors & windows
- Smoke alarms
- Neighbourhood Watch or Community Alert members
