How do I close an account?

AIB Internet Banking
The only accounts that you can close online are the Online Saver, Online Notice Deposit 7 and Personal Demand.
Click on the Deposit Product above for more information to note before closing your account.
Requests to close any other account type must be submitted directly to your account holding branch in writing.
Log in to AIB Internet Banking.
Click on Accounts and select Account Management.
Select the option to Close Account.
Follow the instructions on screen to complete your request.
Please Note: You will need to serve the relevant notice on the Online Notice Deposit 7 before the account can be closed.

AIB Tablet Banking
The only accounts that you can close online and on the AIB Tablet App are the Online Saver, Online Notice Deposit 7 and Personal Demand.
Requests to close any other account type must be submitted directly to your account holding branch in writing.
Log in to AIB Tablet Banking.
Click on Accounts and select Account Management.
Select the option to Close Account.
Follow the instructions on screen to complete your request.
Please Note: You will need to serve the relevant notice on the Online Notice Deposit 7 before the account can be closed.

In Your Branch
You can close the following accounts on AIB Mobile Banking:
- Current accounts: Standard Bank account, Personal Bank account Plus, Basic Bank account and the Advantage account.
- Student accounts: Student account (second level), Student Plus accounts and Graduate account.
Log in to AIB Mobile Banking.
•To close any of the accounts listed above, go to ‘Services’, tap on ‘Support’ and ‘Closing an account’ and follow the steps.
•To close your Online Notice Deposit 7 account, tap on the account, choose ‘Serve Notice’.
To close all other accounts, visit the Customer Service Desk where a member of staff will help you with your request to close the account.
You will need proof of identification.
